Dr Danny Tong speaking at JSE SME Rise Enterprise Accelerator Programme event in Sandton
Dr Danny Tong addresses entrepreneurs at the JSE SME Rise Programme event in Sandton, sharing insights on business growth and scaling.

Dr Danny Tong, founder of InvesTong Group and BoTong Civils, has emerged as one of South Africa’s fastest-growing business leaders, with his company now positioned for a potential listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) AltX within the next two years.

In a country where many entrepreneurs struggle to access funding and scale sustainably, Dr Danny Tong’s journey stands out as a blueprint for disciplined growth, strategic execution, and long-term vision. Born in Taung in South Africa’s North West province, Tong started with limited resources but a clear ambition to build not just a business, but an institution. Today, that vision is rapidly materialising. Through his leadership, BoTong Civils has experienced exponential growth, recording a 418% increase in revenue following its participation in the JSE SME Rise Enterprise Accelerator Programme. The company has secured over R70 million in funding, facilitated more than R200 million in guarantees, and built an order book exceeding R3 billion.

JSE Recognition and SME Rise Impact

At a recent SME Rise event hosted in Sandton, Tong was recognised as one of the programme’s standout success stories. Addressing a new cohort of entrepreneurs, he highlighted the importance of building capacity alongside growth.

“Growth is not just about winning work, but about being ready to absorb it,” Tong explained.
“The programme enabled us to strengthen governance, improve operational efficiency, adopt technology, and build systems required to scale responsibly.”

The SME Rise initiative, developed by the JSE, continues to play a critical role in bridging the gap between small businesses and capital markets, equipping entrepreneurs with the tools needed to grow sustainably and compete at scale.

Building Towards a JSE Listing

With strong financial performance and improved market credibility, Tong has set his sights on a listing on the JSE AltX within the next two years. Such a move would mark a significant milestone, not only for his company but also for South Africa’s SME ecosystem, where few businesses successfully transition into public markets. However, Tong’s ambitions extend beyond listing. His long-term goal is to build an order book exceeding R100 billion while expanding operations across Africa, positioning InvesTong Group as a key player in infrastructure and investment on the continent.

A Story Bigger Than Business

Dr Danny Tong’s journey is more than a financial success story, it is a reflection of what is possible when discipline meets vision. From Taung to the brink of a JSE listing, his rise sends a clear message to aspiring entrepreneurs across South Africa: scale is possible, credibility can be built, and global competitiveness is within reach. As Nabob News continues to spotlight influential leaders, Tong’s story stands as a powerful example of how strategic thinking and relentless execution can transform humble beginnings into extraordinary outcomes.
